December 31, January 1



Bramptonians and Mississaugans are ringing in the new year in celebrations near their City Halls. The events block streets and divert transit services tomorrow evening, New Year’s Eve, Monday, December 31 and early New Year’s Day, Tuesday, January 1.


Once Upon a Year — New Year’s Eve Knight

The City of Brampton is closing

  • Main Streets North and South between Nelson Street West / Theatre Lane and Wellington Street West,
  • Queen Streets East and West between Theatre Lane / Chapel Street and George Street and
  • Wellington Street West between George and Main Streets South

to accommodate the City’s annual New Year’s Eve event.

Brampton Transit is detouring buses operating along the 2 Main and 502 Züm Main routes and although GO Transit has not announced detours it’s likely detouring buses operating along the 31 Guelph / Georgetown / Toronto and 33 Guelph / Georgetown / North York routes, while the streets are closed.

From 3 p.m. New Year’s Eve, Monday, December 31 until 2 a.m. New Year’s Day, Tuesday, January 1, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street North and Nelson Street West, then detour:

westward along Nelson West, passing, but not stopping in, the Downtown Brampton Terminal;
southward along Mill Street North;
westward along Queen Street West;
southward along Mill Street North; and then
eastward along Frederick Street to Main South,
resuming their regular route southward along Main.

  • on Main Street North at Queen Street West and
  • on Main Street South, south of Wellington Street West and across from Woodbrook Drive.

Northbound buses reverse the southbound detour route.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Main Street South at Woodbrook Drive, Wellington Street East and John Street and
  • on Main Street North, north of Queen Street East and at Theatre Lane.

From 3 p.m. New Year’s Eve, Monday, December 31 until 1 a.m. New Year’s Day, Tuesday, January 1, southbound buses operate along their regular route to the Downtown Brampton Terminal; then detour:

southward along George Street North;
westward along Nelson Street West;
southward along Mill Street North;
westward along Queen Street West;
southward along Mill Street North; and then
eastward along Frederick Street to Main South,
resuming their regular route southward along Main.

Northbound buses reverse the southbound detour route.

From 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Friday, December 31 until 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Saturday, January 1, southbound buses operate along their regular route to the Downtown Brampton Terminal, then detour:

westward along Nelson Street West;
southward along McMurchy Avenues North and South; and then
eastward along Charolais Boulevard to Main Street South,
resuming their regular route southward along Main.

  • on Main Street South south of Wellington Street West, at Harold Street, across from and south of Nanwood Drive, at Elgin Drive and Charolais Boulevard.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street South and Charolais Boulevard, then detour:

westward along Charolais;
northward along McMurchy Avenues South and North;
eastward along Nelson Street West;
northward along George Street North; and then
eastward into the Downtown Brampton Terminal,
resuming their regular route.

Mississauga 2013 New Year’s Celebration

The City of Mississauga is closing

  • Burnhamthorpe Road West between Confederation Parkway and Kariya Gate / Kariya Drive from 11:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m.,
  • City Centre Drive east of Duke of York Boulevard from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m.,
  • Duke of York Boulevard between Princess Royal Drive and Burnhamthorpe Road West from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m.
  • Living Arts Drive between Princess Royal Drive and Burnhamthorpe Road West from 11:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. and
  • Princess Royal Drive between Living Arts Drive and Duke of York Boulevard.

to accommodate the annual event.

MiWay is detouring buses operating along the 6 Credit Woodlands, 8 Cawthra, 26 Burnhamthorpe and 91 Hillcrest routes, while the street is closed. Although GO Transit has not announced detours, it’s likely detouring buses operating along the 19 Oakville / North York, 21 Milton / Toronto and 29 Guelph / Mississauga routes.

resuming their regular route eastward along Robert Speck West.

eastward along Rathburn Road West; and then
south- and westward along City Centre Drive to Kariya Gate,
resuming their regular route southward along Kariya.
