Davis Drive rapidway construction blocks lanes
at Yonge and Davis, starting December 10

Metrolinx and York Region contractors are working on the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.

Starting today, Monday, December 10, from about 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day, they’ll be working on the underground utilities work at the intersection of Yonge Street and Davis Drive.

During this phase of the project, work crews will dig a pit and send a tunneling machine under the road at four separate locations, one at a time. (The crews will generally work segment by segment in the sequence that the numbers on the map indicate.)

Each tunneling segment requires about two to three days. Work continues until December 21.

Passengers riding GO Transit buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto and 68 Barrie / Newmarket routes and York Region Transit buses operating along the Viva blue, 50 Queensway, 52 Holland Landing, 55 / 55B Davis Drive, 58A Leslie via Mount Albert, 98 Yonge and 520 / 521 Newmarket community bus routes should expect delays.
