Weekend events affect transit December 7, 8



Several events affect transit services in the Greater Toronto Area this weekend.

The events take place in the Bowmanville area of Clarington, Burlington, Guelph, Pickering and the Unionville area of Markham.

Moonlight Magic

The Region of Durham and the Municipality of Clarington are closing

  • King Street East Bowmanville between Scugog and Ontario Streets

Friday evening to accommodate the Bowmanville Business Improvement Association’s annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony.

The event likely affects GO Transit service, although GO has not announced detours.

From about 6 p.m. until midnight Friday, December 7, westbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street East and Liberty Street, then detour:

southward along Liberty Street South;
westward along Baseline West;
northward along Waverley Road South;
east- and northward along Roenigk Drive to King Street West,
resuming their regular route westward along King.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on King Street East west of Liberty Street North and George Street and at Temperance Street and
  • on King Street West at Scugog Street North.

Westbound buses reverse the eastbound detour routing.

Jingle Santa 5K Run

The City of Burlington is closing:

  • Brant Street, full road, between James Street and Lakeshore Road, from 7 until 11 a.m.,
  • Brant Street, full Road, between Maria and James Streets, from 8:45 until 9:10 a.m.,
  • Brant Street, southbound curb lane, between Graham’s Lane and Maria Street, from 7 until 11 a.m.,
  • Lakeshore Road, westbound curb lanes, between Brant Street and Maple Avenue / North Shore Boulevard East, from 8:50 until 9:20 a.m.

and other streets in central Burlington Saturday morning.

Burlington Transit is detouring buses while the streets are closed. The event also likely affects Hamilton Street Railway service.

From 9 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 8, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Brant Street and Victoria Avenue, then detour:

eastward along Victoria;
east- and southward along Woodland Avenue;
westward along New Street;
southward along Martha Street; and then
westward along James Street to John Street,
resuming their regular route southward along John.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Brant Street at Baldwin and Caroline Streets and south of Ontario Street.

Instead, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on New Street at Martha Street and
  • on James Street at Pearl Street.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to John and James Streets, then detour:

northward along John; and then
westward along Caroline Street to Brant Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Brant.

  • on James Street at Brant Street and
  • on Brant Street at Caroline Street.
5 Francis

From 9 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 8, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Ontario Street and Burlington Avenue, then detour:

southward along Burlington;
eastward along Lakeshore Road; and then
northward along John Street to the Downtown Burlington Transit Terminal,
ending their trips.

Expect delays as race participants pass northward along Maple Avenue between Lakeshore Road / North Shore Boulevard East and Maple Crossing Boulevard.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Ontario Street at Blathwayte Lane, Locust and Brant Streets and
  • on Brant Street south of Ontario Street.

Instead, buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Lakeshore Road across from Locust Street.

Westbound buses reverse the eastbound detour routing.

Expect delays as race participants pass westward along Lakeshore Road between Brant Street and Maple Avenue / North Shore Boulevard East.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on James Street at Brant Street,
  • on Ontario Street west of Brant Street and at Hurd Street and Burlington Avenue.

Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on Lakeshore Road at Brant Street.
10 New - Maple

Expect delays from about 9 until 10:30 .m. as race participants pass northward along Maple Avenue between Lakeshore Road / North Shore Boulevard East and Maple Crossing Boulevard.
