Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue to work on the project to build a rapidway — bus-only rapid transit lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 East in Markham and Richmond Hill.
This weekend, they’ll be severely restricting traffic at two different work sites as they start repaving the roadway and paving the centre-lane rapiday.
Highway 7 between Doncrest Road and Saddlecreek Drive:
Starting at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, September 28 and continuing until 6 a.m. Monday, October 1, paving reduces traffic to just one lane in each direction. You won’t be able to enter or exit from Chalmers Road on the north side of Highway 7. The contractors hope to reopen access to Chalmers as soon as possible.
York Region Transit will relocate the stop for westbound buses operating along the 1 Highway 7 route to the centre of the roadway over the weekend. YRT staff will be at the stop to help passengers and they’ll also post signs on the regular bus stop.
From 8 p.m. today, Friday, September 28 until 6 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, September 29, paving reduces traffic to just one lane in each direction.
Although York Regional Police officers will be at each site to direct traffic, you should also watch for detour signs informing you about alternate routes.
