Since early July, contractors for the City of Toronto and the TTC have been working on major construction projects along
- Dufferin Street between Queen Street West and Springhurst Avenue.
Work crews have been
- rebuilding watermains;
- upgrading streetcar tracks;
- rebuilding roads, curbs and sidwalks;
- installing traffic signals; and
- improving the streetscape by building walls and installing banner poles.
During Phase 1 of the project, contractors rebuilt watermains south of Springhurst Avenue. They then progressed northward along Dufferin Street toward Queen Street West with some sidewalk and road work.
Now, they’re starting Phase 2, which involves rebuilding the tracks, including road work, between Springhurst Avenue and Queen Street West.
The TTC is further reorganizing bus service along the 29 Dufferin and 329 Dufferin overnight routes during this work. It’s detouring all buses off Dufferin Street south of Queen Street West. Buses will not serve Dufferin Loop or the west end of Exhibition Place until construction ends.
Revising service along the 329 Dufferin overnight route also affects service along the 316 Ossington overnight route, since the TTC interlines the two services.
Construction on this phase starts tomorrow, Monday, September 17 and continues until December.

Transit agencies often interline two or more routes sharing a common terminal to save resource — meaning they use fewer drivers and fewer vehicles to serve the routes. For example, when a southbound bus operating along the 329 Dufferin overnight route arrives at Exhibition Place, it continues northbound along the 316 Ossington overnight route. After finishing a round trip along the 316 route, the bus returns to the Exhibition Place, then continues northward along the 329 route.
