Contractors start paving Highway 7 for rapidway project,
September 17 until mid-November

From Monday, September 17 until mid-November, Metrolinx and York Region contractors working on the project to build rapid transit along Highway 7 in Markham and Richmond Hill start paving parts of the road and the rapidway — the bus-only rapid transit lanes in the centre of the roadway.

They’ll finish this work one section at a time and may have to close intersections and traffic lanes along Highway 7 between Bayview Avenue and East Beaver Creek Road.

Overnight, from Monday, September 17 until Monday, October 22:
  • The contractors will be working on the north side of Highway 7. They’ll maintain one westbound lane and three eastbound lanes for traffic. They’ll start work at 8 p.m. and finish at 6 a.m. the next morning. Expect noise from the equipment and machines that crews use to complete the work.
Overnight, from Monday, October 22 until Monday, November 18:
  • The contractors will be working on the south side of the road. They’ll maintain one eastbound lane and three westbound lanes for traffic. They’ll start work at 8 p.m. and finish at 6 a.m. the next morning. Expect noise from the equipment and machines that crews use to complete the work.

The work will limit access to certain intersections with Highway 7 and to north / south streets. Depending on where work is taking place, you may have to choose an alternate route to get to where you want to go. It may also affect York Region Transit / Viva bus stops. Staff will be on-site to direct you to the nearest available stop.

Police officers and flag persons will also be at each construction site to direct traffic and assist pedestrians.
