TTC revises routes and services, September 2



Now that the summer is drawing to a close, the TTC is resuming regular service, starting Sunday, September 2.

The end of summer service means that you’ll see more frequent service Mondays to Fridays during rush hours along many routes.

It’s also increasing service along some routes at other times of the week and adding more service along the 6 Bay and 75 Sherbourne routes to connect passengers traveling between Union Station and George Brown College’s new Waterfront Campus on Queens Quay East.

Specifically, the TTC is: introducing a new branch of a current route; resuming service along seasonal branches of current routes; canceling service along a seasonal branch of a current route; increasing service along current routes; decreasing service along current routes; increasing the frequency of service along current routes; decreasing the frequency of service along current routes; revising current routes; adjusting the schedules of current routes; and making other changes to service along current routes.


Introducing a new branch of a current route


6C Bay

Starting Sunday, September 2, the TTC increases service to and from George Brown College’s new Waterfront Campus, by introducing a new branch of the route.

Buses serving the new 6C branch operate between Bay Street south of Front Street West (beside Union Station) and George Brown. They operate Mondays to Fridays from about 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from about noon until 7 p.m.

Southbound buses start their trips on Bay Street south of Front Street West, then proceed:

southward along Bay,
eastward along Queens Quays West and East;
southward along Knapp Lane; and then
east- and northward along Dockside Drive to Queens Quay East,
ending their trips.

Buses operate along Knapp Lane temporarily until the east end of Dockside Drive opens to traffic.

Northbound buses start their trips on Dockside Drive [east] at Queens Quay East, then proceed:

westward along Queens Quay East;
northward Yonge Street;
westward along Wellington Street West; and then
southward along Bay Street to just south of Front Street West, beside Union Station,
ending their trips.

They drop off and pick up passengers between Union Station and George Brown every 10 minutes Mondays to Fridays during rush hours, every 15 minutes from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and from about noon until 7 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

By operating buses along this new branch, the TTC significantly increases the frequency of service along the route south of Front Street West.

The TTC also recently revised the route of all buses operating to and from Queens Quay East.


Resuming service along seasonal branches of current routes


38A Highland Creek

Starting Tuesday, September 4, buses again operate along this branch between the University of Toronto’s Scarborough Campus and Scarborough Centre Station.

The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service and decreasing the frequency of service along different parts of the route.

It’s also making another change to service along the route.

191A Highway 27 rocket

Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., the TTC operates six extra round trips, but only along the route between Kipling Station and Humber College’s North Campus.

The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the main route.

30B Lambton (High Park)

Labour Day, Monday, September 3 is the last day this year that the TTC operates buses south of High Park Station into High Park Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

It’s also decreasing the frequency of service along the route and adjusting the schedule of the route at other times of the week.


Increasing service along current routes


72A Pape via Commissioners

Starting Tuesday, September 4, buses resume operating along the route Mondays to Fridays before 7 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays before 9 a.m. and after 7 p.m.

At all other times of the week, buses continue operate along the 72B Pape via Commissioners and Cherry Beach route.

The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the main branch of the route,

191A Highway 27 rocket

Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., the TTC operates six extra round trips, but only along the route between Kipling Station and Humber College’s North Campus.

Decreasing service along current routes


101 Downsview Park

Friday, September 2 is the last day this year that buses operate along the route Mondays to Fridays.

Buses continue to operate along the route Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The TTC resumes Monday-to-Friday service in May.

29D Dufferin (Princes’ Gate)

Starting Tuesday, September 4, the TTC decreases service along the branch, so that buses only operate Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

At all other times of the week, all buses start and end their trips in the Dufferin Gate Loop.

72B Pape via Commissioners & Cherry Beach

Fewer passengers travel to and from Cherry Beach during the autumn. Labour Day, Monday, September 3, is the last day this year that buses operate along this branch of the route seven days a week after 9:30 a.m.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, the TTC decreases the hours of service to the beach so that buses operate along the 72B branch Mondays to Fridays after 7 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from about 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Buses continue to operate along the regular 72A Pape via Commissioners branch of route Mondays to Fridays before 7 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays before 9 a.m. and after 7 p.m.

The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the main branch of the route.

86A Scarborough

The Toronto Zoo closes earlier at 4:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays in fall and winter. Starting Tuesday, September 4, the last westbound bus leaves the zoo at 5:36 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.

85 D / F Sheppard East

The Toronto Zoo closes earlier at 6 p.m. weekends and holidays in fall and winter. Starting Sunday, September 2, the last westbound bus leaves the zoo around 7 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, the TTC is operating one more bus along the route Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours. Buses drop off and pick up passengers at each stop along the route every 8 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes.

61 Avenue Rd North

Starting Tuesday, September 4, the TTC is operating one more bus along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses drop off and pick up passengers at each stop along the route every 12 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes.

7 Bathurst

Starting Tuesday, September 4, the TTC operates three more buses along the route to increase the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during afternoon rush hours. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route every 5 minutes 20 seconds, instead of every 6 minutes 15 seconds.

The TTC is also decreasing the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours.

6 Bay

The TTC is introducing the new 6C branch, serving passengers traveling between Union Station and George Brown College’s new Waterfront Campus Mondays to Fridays before 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday and holiday afternoons. As a result, it’s increasing the frequency of service along the route south of Bay Street and Front Street West.

Starting Sunday, September 2, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops south of Front every 7½ minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, Saturdays and Sundays from about noon until 7 p.m.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, the buses serve the stops about every 2 minutes 27 seconds, instead of every 4 minutes, Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours. They serve the stops about every 6 minutes 40 seconds, instead of every 12 minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. They serve the stops every 3 minutes 20 seconds, instead of every 5 minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

The TTC is also revising the route.

11 Bayview

The TTC is operating more buses along the route to increase the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route every 12 minutes, instead of every 12 minutes 45 seconds, Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours. They serve the stops every 12 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

Buses operating along both the 11 Bayview and 28 Davisville routes serve stops along Davisville Avenue west of Cleveland Street. The buses serve those stops every 6 minutes, instead of every 6 minutes 23 seconds, during morning rush hours. They serve the stops every 6 minutes, instead of every 7½ minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

9 Bellamy

The TTC operates one more bus along the route to increase the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Starting Tuesday, September 4, Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route every 15 minutes, instead of every 18 minutes.

17 Birchmount

The TTC operates two more buses along the route to increase the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops south of Steeles Avenue East every 6½ minutes, instead of every 8 minutes 15 seconds during morning rush hours. They serve each stop every 7&frc12; minutes, instead of every 9 minutes 23 seconds, during afternoon rush hours.

North of Steeles East, buses serve the stops every 19½ minutes, instead of every 24 minutes 45 seconds during morning rush hours.

2 Bloor - Danforth subway

The TTC is operating five more trains along the line to increase the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, trains drop off or pick up passengers at stations along the line every 2 minutes 21 seconds, instead of every 2 minutes 40 seconds during morning rush hours. They serve the stations every 2½ minutes, instead of every 2 minutes 52 seconds, during afternoon rush hours.

49 Bloor West

The TTC operates one more bus along the route to increase the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours. Starting Tuesday, September 4, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route every 7½ minutes, instead of every 10 minutes.

The TTC is also adjusting the schedule of the route.

21 Brimley

The TTC operates one more bus along the 21B branch of the route between Steeles Avenue and Scarborough Centre Station to increase the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops every 6 minutes 40 seconds, instead of every 8 minutes, during morning rush hours. They serve stops every 8 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

506 Carlton

The TTC operates two more streetcars along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, streetcars drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route every 3 minutes 45 seconds, instead of every 4 minutes, during morning rush hours. They serve the stops every 4 minutes 40 seconds, instead of every 5 minutes 10 seconds, during afternoon rush hours.

20 Cliffside

The TTC operates one more bus along the route to increase the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during rush hours and early Saturday evenings.

The TTC operates more buses along the route to increase the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during rush hours and Saturdays after noon.

Buses drop off and pick up passengers at stops west of Gordon Baker Road (Victoria Park Avenue) every 4½ minutes, instead of every 5 minutes 38 seconds. The buses serve stops between Kennedy and Gordon Baker Roads every 9 minutes, instead of every 11 minutes 15 seconds. They serve stops between Middlefield and Kennedy Roads every 18 minutes, instead of every 22½ minutes.

It operates three more buses during afternoon rush hours. The buses serve stops west of Gordon Baker every 5 minutes 45 seconds, instead of every 7 minutes. The TTC operates two more streetcars along the route Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours and one more car during afternoon rush hours.

The TTC operates more buses along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours and Saturday afternoons.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops west of Kennedy Station every 4½ minutes, instead of every 4 minutes 50 seconds. 32 Eglinton West

The TTC operates three more buses along the route Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours and two more after 7 p.m.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, the buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops between Eglinton and Eglinton West Station every 2 minutes 15 seconds, instead of every 2&frac; minutes during morning rush hours. Between Eglinton West Station and Keele Street / Trethewey Drive, buses serve stops every minute and 48 seconds, instead of every 2 minutes.

West of Keele Street / Trethewey Drive, buses operate every 4½ minutes, instead of every 5 minutes, along the 32C branch to Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue West and the 32A branch to Skymark Drive. They operate every 9 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes, along the 32D branch to Jane Street and Emmett Avenue.

The buses serve stops between Eglinton and Eglinton West Station every 5 minutes, instead of every 5½ minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 7 until 10 p.m. Between Eglinton West Station and Keele Street / Trethewey Drive, the buses serve stops every 4 minutes 8 seconds, instead of every 4 minutes 28 seconds.

West of Keele Street / Trethewey Drive, buses operate every 10 minutes, instead of every 11 minutes, along the 32C branch to Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue West and the 32A branch to Skymark Drive. They continue to operate every 24 minutes along the 32D branch to Jane Street and Emmett Avenue.

The buses serve stops between Eglinton Station and Keele Street / Trethewey Drive every 6 minutes, instead of every 7 minutes, after 10 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. They serve stops west of Keele Street / Trethewey Drive every 12 minutes, instead of every 14 minutes.

15 Evans

The TTC operates one more bus along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Starting Tuesday, September 4, buses drop off and pick up passengers at stops along the route every 12½ minutes, instead of every 17 minutes.

The TTC is also adjusting the schedule of the route.

39 / 39F Finch East express / local

The TTC increases the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during afternoon rush hours.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, westbound buses operate along the 39 branch express - without stopping - between Seneca College’s Newnham Campus and Finch Station. The buses serve the two stops on its route every 9 minutes, instead of every 9½ minutes.

Eastbound buses operate along the 39F branch and drop off and pick up passengers at all local stops between Finch Station and Seneca every 9 minutes, instead of every 9½ minutes.

39D / G Finch East local

The TTC operates two more buses along local branches of the route Mondays to Fridays during afternoon rush hours.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops west of Neilson Road every 4½ minutes, instead of every 4 minutes 45 seconds. East of Neilson Road, the buses serve stops every 13½ minutes, instead of every 14 minutes 15 seconds.

199 Finch rocket

The TTC operates three more buses along the route to increase the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during afternoon rush hours. Starting Tuesday, September 4, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route every 5 minutes, instead of every 6 minutes.

The TTC is also decreasing the frequency of service along the route at another time of the week.

36 Finch West

The TTC operates more buses along the route to increase the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and after 10 p.m., Saturdays after 10 p.m. and Sundays and holidays before 7 p.m.

Starting Sunday, September 2, it operates one more bus along the route Sunday-and-holiday mornings and afternoons. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route every 13 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, Sundays and holidays before 8 a.m. They serve stops every 7 minutes, instead of every 8 minutes, from about 8 a.m. until noon. They serve stops every 5½ minutes, instead of every 6 minutes, from about noon until 7 p.m.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, it operates two more buses along the route Monday-to-Friday midday and late evenings. Buses serve stops every 4½ minutes, instead of every 5 minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. They serve stops every 7½ minutes, instead of every 9 minutes after 10 p.m.

Starting Saturday, September 8, it operates two more buses along the route late Saturday evenings. Buses serve stops every 12 minutes, instead of every 13 minutes, after 10 p.m. Saturdays.

122 Graydon Hall

Starting Tuesday, September 4, the TTC is operating one more bus along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses operate every 10 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, during morning rush hours. Buses operate every 13 minutes, instead of every 16 minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

509 Harbourfront

Although fewer passengers travel to and from the Toronto Island ferries, Harbourfront and Exhibition Place during the autumn, the TTC is slightly increasing the frequency of service along the route. (Buses are replacing the streetcars that usually operate along the route and buses carry fewer passengers.) It’s also no longer short-turning buses in the loop at Queens Quay West and Lower Spadina; all buses serve the complete route between Union Station and the Exhibition. That results in more frequent service along parts of the route at certain times of the week and less frequent service at others.

Starting Sunday, September 2, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops west of Spadina, every 6 minutes, instead of every 12 minutes, Sundays and holidays before 8 a.m. They serve the stops every 4 minutes 15 seconds, instead of every 7 minutes, from about 8 a.m. until noon. They serve the stops every 3 minutes 20 seconds, instead of every 5 minutes 20 seconds, from about noon until 7 p.m. They serve the stops every 4 minutes, instead of every 7½ minutes, from about 7 until 10 p.m. And, they serve the stops every 5 minutes 40 seconds, instead of every 8 minutes, after 10 p.m.

Starting Saturday, September 8, buses serve the stops every 5½ minutes, instead of every 12 minutes, Saturdays before 8 a.m. They serve the stops every 4 minutes 15 seconds, instead of every 8 minutes from about 8 a.m. until noon. The TTC’s increasing the running time - the time operators require to complete a round trip along the route Saturday mornings and afternoons. As a result, buses operate less frequently than they do currently.

30 Lambton

Fewer passengers travel to and from High Park during the autumn, so Labour Day, Monday, September 3 is the last year this year that the TTC’s extending the route into the park from about 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Starting Saturday, September 8, it’s also operating one less bus along the route, decreasing the frequency of service. Buses drop off and pick up passengers at each stop along the route every 30 minutes, instead of every 24 minutes, Saturdays from about 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Starting Tuesday, September 4, buses drop off and pick up passengers at each stop along the route every 12 minutes, instead of every 8 minutes, from about 1 until 3 p.m. Buses serve each stop along the route every 9 minutes, instead of every 5½ minutes, during the afternoon rush hours. They serve each stop every 10 minutes, instead of every 8 minutes from about 7 until 10:30 p.m.


Revising current routes


6 Bay

Starting Wednesday, August 15, the TTC revised the southern end of the route so that all buses operating along Queens Quay East operate to and from the new Waterfront Campus of George Brown College.

Southbound buses operate along their former route to Queens Quay East and Freeland Street, then proceed:

eastward along Queens Quay East;
southward along Knapp Lane; and then
west- and northward along Dockside Drive to Queens Quay East,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips at Dockside Drive and Queens Quay East, then proceed:

westward along Queens Quay East to Lower Jarvis Street,
resuming their former route eastward along Queens Quay East.

Buses no longer operate along Freeland Street, Lake Shore Boulevard East or Lower Jarvis Street.

Buses no longer drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • on Freeland Street north of Queens Quay East and at Lake Shore Boulevard East and
  • on Lower Jarvis Street south of Lake Shore Boulevard East and at Queens Quay East.

Buses operate along Knapp Lane temporarily until the east end of Dockside Drive opens to traffic.

The TTC is also introducing a new branch of the route and increasing the frequency of service along part of the route.


Adjusting the schedules of current routes


49 Bloor West

Starting Sunday, September 1, the TTC no longer interlines buses operating along the route with buses operating along the 30 Lambton route Sundays and holidays from about 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.

The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.

15 Evans

Starting Tuesday, September 4, the TTC adjusts the schedule of extra northbound buses serving passengers traveling from the Etobicoke School of Arts Monday-to-Friday afternoons toward Royal York Station. The buses leave the school 3:23, 3:28 and 3:35 p.m.

The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.

45 Kipling

To better serve passengers traveling from various high schools on or near Kipling Avenue, the TTC is operating an extra northbound local bus Monday-Friday afternoons. The bus leaves Kipling Station at 2:40 p.m. and operates as far north as Dixon Road.

The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.

30 Lambton

Starting Sunday, September 1, the TTC no longer interlines buses operating along the route with buses operating along the 49 Bloor West route Sundays and holidays from about 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.

The TTC is also canceling service along a seasonal branch of the route and decreasing the frequency of service along the route.


Making other changes to current routes


38 Highland Creek

On a trial bases, starting Sunday, September 1, GO Transit and the TTC start a special fare arrangement to let GO train passengers travel between Rouge Hill GO Station and the University of Toronto’s Scarborough campus.

GO passengers my board TTC buses operating along the 38 Highland Creek route seven days a week at the westbound stop at Rouge Hill GO Station or the eastbound stop at U of T Scarborough, if they present valid GO fare. They can travel between the campus and the GO station without paying an extra fare.

This fare arrangement is not in effect at any other TTC bus stops or along any other TTC bus routes. This pilot project continues until Saturday, April 27, 2013.

The TTC is also resuming service along a branch of the route and increasing and decreasing the frequency of service along the route at different times of the week.

41E Keele express

Starting Tuesday, September 4, northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a new express stop on Old Weston Road just north of St. Clair Avenue West.

Southbound express buses serve stops

  • at the Harry W. Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus,
  • on the York University Busway at Murray Ross Parkway,
  • on Keele Street at Finch and Sheppard Avenues West, Wilson and Falstaff Avenues, Lawrence Avenue West and Gulliver Road,
  • on Trethewey Drive at Eglinton Avenue West,
  • on Keele Street across from Donald Avenue and at Rogers Road,
  • on Weston Road beside Avon Loop,
  • on Keele Street south of St. Clair Avenue West and
  • in Keele Station.

Northbound express buses serve stops

  • in Keele Station,
  • on Keele Street at St. Clair Avenue West,
  • on Old Weston Road north of St. Clair Avenue West,
  • on Keele Street north of Rogers Road and at Donald Avenue, Eglinton Avenue West, Ingram Drive and Lawrence Avenue West, across from Falstaff Avenue, at Wilson Avenue and Sheppard Avenue West and north of Finch Avenue West,
  • on Murray Ross Parkway at the York University Busway and
  • at the Harry W. Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus.

The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.


Transit agencies often interline two or more routes with a common terminal to save resources — the number of vehicles they need to operate and the number of drivers that need to work — to provide transit services.

For example, Sundays and holidays from June until September, after westbound buses operating along the 30 Lambton route arrive in Kipling Station, they continue westward along the 49 Bloor West route. They complete their trips to Markland Woods, return eastward to Kipling Station, then continue further eastward along the 30 Lambton route.
