The Region of York and the City of Vaughan are closing
- Highway 7 between Edgeley Boulevard and Jane Street
— near the site of the future Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station — from 3 until 4 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, August 17,
while TTC contractors move heavy equipment from the north side of the roadway to the south side. The move is part of the ongoing project to extend the 1 Yonge - University - Spadina subway northwestward beyond Downsview Station to York University and Vaughan.
“Paid-duty” York Regional Police officers will make sure that traffic flows safely and redirect traffic to alternate routes. Since the work also blocks the sidewalk on the north side of Highway 7 at Millway Avenue, a flag person will direct pedestrians to a safe route around the construction zone.
The City of Vaughan has amended its noise by-law to allow the contractor to work overnight and weekends, if necessary, to reduce disrupting traffic over a long term and to keep the project on schedule.
If the contractors need more time to complete the work, the activity may delay early-morning buses operating along York Region Transit’s Viva orange or 77 Highway 7 routes or Brampton Transit’s 501 Züm Queen route.
