Since Monday, July 16, Enbridge workers have been boring under the Holland River to install a new segment of gas main in front of the Seniors’ Meeting Place.
The work is part of the ongoing Metrolinx and York Region project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.
During the next phase of the project, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, August 7, the Town of Newmarket will temporarily further detour Tom Taylor Trail, which extends along the riverside.
Pedestrians and cyclists using the trail must observe detour signs directing them to Davis Drive, where they use the western traffic lights to safely cross the street before picking up the trail again on the other side of Davis.
A “paid-duty” police officer will be on the site to direct traffic and pedestrians on Davis.
A flag person will direct pedestrians and cyclists on the Tom Taylor Trail.
The blocks the eastbound curb lane along Davis. At times, the lanes may also be closed overnight.
The Town has already been detouring the trail for earlier phases of this project since November, 2010.
