Metrolinx and York Region crews continue the next phase of the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.
Starting this week, contractors work on two more phases of the project.
Tomorrow, Sunday, July 29 from about 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., a crew will be installing hydro poles on Davis Drive at Yonge Street. They’ll be using large equipment that will block the westbound curb lane, preventing traffic from turning from Davis onto Yonge. They may also close the nearby sidewalks. Motorists and pedestrians should observe and obey all signs.
Passengers riding GO Transit buses operating along the 69 Sutton / Newmarket route and York Region Transit buses operating along the 55 Davis Drive route should expect delays.
Starting Monday, July 30 from about 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., another crew will relocate hydro services on Yonge Street from just north of Davis Drive to just south of Davis.
They may block traffic lanes closures on Yonge in the curb or right-turn lanes, but only close a single south- or northbound lane at any time. The work may also restrict access to bus stops and sideways. Passengers and pedestrians should observe and obey all signs that will direct them to the nearest bus stop or to safe walkways around the construction zone.
Passengers riding GO Transit buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto and 68 Barrie / Newmarket routes and York Region Transit buses operating along the Viva blue, 52 Holland Landing, 98 Yonge and 520 / 521 Newmarket community bus routes should expect delays.
The work continues until August 31.
