Metrolinx and York Region crews continue the next phase of the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.
Thursday, July 19 crews start building a retaining wall in front of the Dixon Medical Building at 531 Davis Drive, west of Bayview Parkway on the north side of the street. When they finish building the wall from pre-cast blocks, it will stretch 13 metres long. A handrail will top the wall.
The work from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day includes:
- Installing construction fencing and clearing the landscaping;
- Digging out the work area;
- Building the retaining wall; and
- Backfilling and restoring the area.
During the work, contractors may temporarily block the westbound curb lane. If the work blocks bus stops or sidewalks, directional signs will guide pedestrians along safe detour routes and passengers to the nearest available bus stop. If necessary, a flag person will be on site to direct pedestrians.
All building entrances remain open during the work. Since the building’s southern entrance and pathway will be near the construction work area, consider using the northwest entrance, when parking at the medical building.
The project continues for about two weeks, until the end of July.
Passengers riding GO Transit buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto and 69 Sutton / Newmarket routes or YRT buses operating along the 50 Queensway, 55 / 55B Davis Drive, 58A Leslie via Mt Albert and 520 / 521 Newmarket community bus routes should expect delays.
