Metrolinx and GO Transit is partnering with No. 9 Contemporary Art & the Environment to bring you Art Train Conductor No. 9, a moving, mobile, public-art project.
From Wednesday, June 27 until Saturday, December 1, the works of Toronto-based artists Jennifer Marman and Daniel Borins wrap both the interior and exterior of a coach on the Art Train.
You can be a part of the Art Train experience as the train operates along on the various GO lines. You can also discuss sustainable transportation issues on-line, using a special mobile application, tetAtet. The developers of the app created it after consulting with PhD students at the University of Toronto’s iSchool — the Faculty of Information’s Knowledge Media Design Institute — and features video clips of public figures speaking about transit, urban and environmental issues. Participants include author Margaret Atwood, architect Bruce Kuwabara, Spacing’s senior editor Shawn Micallef and transportation expert Eric Miller.
New content will appear weekly to ignite discussion among transit riders through an integrated Twitter feed. The app is available for iPhone and Android and is free to download.
Last week and again this week, the Art Train is rolling along GO’s 01 Lakeshore West line, and then appeared on the 12 Niagara Falls line Saturday, June 30, Sunday, July 1 and today, Monday, July 2.
