Starting yesterday, Tuesday, June 12, the workers have been temporarily blocking traffic lanes along Davis Drive and on all four corners at Davis and Yonge Street to drill, pour and set new concrete hydro-pole foundations.
They’re working from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Mondays to Fridays until Friday, June 29.
At the site of each hydro pole, the crews will:
- drill a hole for the base of the pole;
- place a cage of rebar in the hole; and
- pour concrete into the hole.
The workers need as long as two hours at each site. They surround each site with safety fencing before moving to the next location. About two days later, after the concrete has cured, the crews return to each site to backfill the area and remove the safety fencing.
The nature of the work requires 24-hour sidewalk and lane closures:
- First, at the four corners of the Davis Drive and Yonge Street intersection on both Yonge Street and Davis Drive; and
- Second, along the south side of Davis Drive from Yonge Street east to Barbara Road.
Signs at each work site directs pedestrians to detour routes.
During the work, southbound York Region Transit buses operating along the 98 / 99 Yonge late-night route and eastbound YRT buses operating along the 55 / 55B Davis Drive route will not serve bus stop #5022 on the south side of Davis Drive West at Yonge Street. (The stop also serves GO Transit buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto and 69 Sutton / Newmarket routes.) Also, southbound YRT buses operating along the 44 Bristol - London, 98 Yonge and 521 Newmarket community routes won’t serve the stop on the west side of Yonge at Davis Drive West. The stop also serves GO buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto and 68 Barrie / Newmarket routes.) Signs at each stop direct passengers to the nearest active bus stop.
YRT is temporarily moving stop #2061 on the south side of Davis Drive East across from George Street. YRT buses operating along the 55 /55B Davis Drive and 58A Leslie via Mount Albert routes and GO buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto and 69 Sutton / Newmarket routes drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop two hydro poles east of the regular location.
