Construction schedule for four LRTs on the agenda,
as Metrolinx board of directors meets today

The Metrolinx Board of Directors meets today, Wednesday, April 25, in its Executive Boardroom, 6th Floor, 20 Bay Street from 11 a.m. until noon.

The sole item on its agenda is the construction schedule for four Toronto light rail transit lines:

  • the Eglinton - Scarborough Crosstown line;
  • a new line extending the current Scarborough RT to Sheppard Avenue East (eventually this will be part of the Eglinton - Scarborough Crosstown line);
  • the Sheppard East line; and
  • the Etobicoke - Finch line.

The board likely will approve all four projects but resolve not to forward any more funds to the City of Toronto — other than the $8 billion it has already committed — for any extra costs resulting from building the projects or from any moves by the City or its politicians to delay the projects.

(Work had already started on the Sheppard East LRT, when Toronto Mayor Rob Ford unilaterally cancelled all light rail projects on December 1, 2010, his first day in office.)
