YRT revises routes and services, April 22

For the first time since September, York Region Transit extensively revised its routes and services, last Sunday, April 22.

Although YRT has made smaller changes to its services since the fall — including revised service along the Viva blue and Viva blue “A” routes as recently as Sunday, April 1, the lengthy strike from October until February likely prevented YRT staff from working on plans to revise service.

This time, the news is mostly bad for passengers. YRT is decreasing the frequency of service along many routes, in part, because, as summer approaches, fewer passengers ride public transit and, in part, to save money by reducing service along less popular routes.

However, YRT is also rerouting or extending several of its bus services> and also introducing new seasonal service to Canada’s Wonderland.

YRT is revising service along these routes — Viva green, Viva orange, Viva pink, Viva purple, 1 Highway 7, 2 Milliken, 3 Thornhill - York U, 4 / 4A Major Mackenzie, 5 Clark, 7 Martin Grove, 8 Kennedy, 9 Ninth Line, 10 York U - Woodbridge, 12 Pine Valley, 13 Islington, 15 Stouffville local, 18 Bur Oak, 20 Jane - Concord, 23 Thornhill Woods, 31 Aurora North, 32 Aurora South, 33 / 33A Wellington, 41 Markham local, 42 Berczy South Unionville, 44 Bristol - London, 45 Mingay, 51 Keswick local, 52 Holland Landing, 53 Woodspring - Clearmeadow, 54 Bayview, 55 / 55B Davis Drive, 57 / 57A Mulock, 58A Leslie via Mount Albert, 77 Highway 7 / Centre, 82 Valleymede - Spadina, 84A / 84C Oak Ridges, 85 / 85A / 85B Rutherford - 16th Avenue, 86 Weldrick - Newkirk, 87 Langstaff - Maple, 88 / 88A Bathurst, 90 90 / 90B Leslie, 91 / 91A / 91B / 91E Bayview, 98 Yonge, 98E Yonge limited express, 99 Yonge, 98 / 99 Yonge late night, 222 Newmarket - Aurora GO shuttle, 223 Newmarket GO Shuttle, 224B Woodbine Avenue, 414 Bill Crothers / Unionville high school special, 425 Holland Landing high school special, 445 St. Robert high school special, 522 Markham community bus, 760 Vaughan Mills / Wonderland.

Specifically, YRT is: introducing a new route; increasing service along a current route; decreasing service along current routes, increasing the frequency of service along current routes, decreasing the frequency of service along current routes; revising current routes; extending current routes; introducing or resuming seasonal service; revising service to and from colleges and universities; revising service to and from high schools; and adjusting the schedule of current routes.
