You can use PRESTO cards on HSR buses, starting May 4

Although you won’t find any notice on the Hamilton Street Railway website, starting Wednesday, May 4, the HSR joined Burlington Transit and Oakville Transit in allowing adult passengers to use PRESTO cards to pay their fares on all buses.

The HSR ticket office in the Hamilton GO Centre is now a PRESTO agency.

At a PRESTO agency, you can

  • buy a PRESTO card,
  • “load” value onto your card,
  • check your balance and
  • make various other transactions.

GO’s ticket office at the GO Centre is also a PRESTO agency.

At the Hamilton GO Centre, you can use your PRESTO card to pay fares on all GO Transit trains and HSR buses serving the station. You can’t use the card to pay your fare on GO buses.

PRESTO cards calculate fares for single trips using vehicles from several transit systems, such as when you transfer between HSR and Burlington Transit buses or between an HSR bus and a GO train.

You’ll also find PRESTO agencies in two other locations where the HSR operates buses — at Aldershot GO Station and at the Downtown Burlington Terminal.
