Streetcars return to King West -- temporarily --
starting September 5



This Sunday, September 5, the City of Toronto is reopening a section of King Street West near Jameson Avenue, which it has closed since Tuesday, June 1 during a project to install new watermains.

TTC streetcars operating along the 504 King and 508 Lakeshore routes resume service along King Street West. The TTC is also revising the service of buses operating along the 313 Jane overnight route and the shuttle buses that replaced the streetcars during the construction.

Since the project to rebuild the streetcars and redesign the streetscape along Roncesvalles Avenue continues, streetcars will not yet operate along Roncesvalles.

The City will again close King Street West and the TTC will again detour streetcars and buses, in October.

313 Jane overnight

Starting about 2 a.m. on Labour Day, Monday, September 6 until late November, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Dundas and Roncesvalles Avenue, then detour:

southeastward along Dundas Street West;
southward along Lansdowne Avenue;
westward along Queen Street West to Roncesvalles Avenue,
resuming their regular route westward along the Queensway to Sunnyside Loop.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Roncesvalles Avenue south of Boustead Avenue, at Howard Park Avenue, Constance Street, Geoffrey Street, High Park Boulevard, Fern and Galley Avenues and the Queensway.

Instead, southbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Dundas Street West at at Howard Park Avenue, Sorauren Avenue, opposite Sterling Road and St. Helens Avenue and at Lansdowne Avenue and
  • on Lansdowne Avenue south of Rideau Avenue, at #106 Lansdowne, Seaforth Avenue and Queen Street West
  • on Queen Street West at Sorauren, Triller and Roncesvalles Avenues.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route.

504 King

Starting Sunday, September 5, all cars resume service along King Street West between the Queensway / Queen Street West and Shaw Street.

Streetcars start and end their trips in Roncesvalles Carhouse.

Eastbound cars serve the stop on Roncesvalles Avenue, just north of the Queensway, and all other regular stops eastward along the route to Broadview Station.

Westbound cars serve the stop in Broadview Station, and all other regular stops along the route to the stop on Roncesvalles Avenue, just north of Queen Street West.

Buses continue to replace streetcars along Roncesvalles Avenue and Dundas Street West between Roncesvalles and Queen Street West / the Queensway and Dundas West Station.

504 King shuttle bus

Starting Tuesday, September 7, buses replace streetcars operating along the 504 King route between Roncesvalles and Queen Street West / the Queensway and Dundas West Station Mondays to Fridays only.

(Starting Sunday, September 5, the TTC extends the bus route to replace 301 Queen overnight and 501 Queen streetcars Saturdays, Sundays and holidays during a weekend project to maintain the streetcar tracks along the Queensway.)

Southbound buses start their trips in Dundas West Station, then proceed:

eastward along Edna Avenue;
south- and southwestward along Dundas Street West;
southward along Lansdowne Avenue;
westward along Queen Street West to Roncesvalles Avenue;
ending their trips.

Southbound buses serve the regular 504 King stops

  • in Dundas West Station and
  • on Dundas Street West at Bloor Street West.

They skip regular 504 King stops

  • on Roncesvalles Avenue south of Boustead Avenue, at Howard Park Avenue, Constance Street, Geoffrey Street, High Park Boulevard, Fern and Galley Avenues and the Queensway.

Southbound buses also drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

508 Lake Shore

Starting Tuesday, September 7, streetcars resume their regular route.

501 / 504 Queen / King shuttle bus

Starting Sunday, September 5 until late November, a TTC project to maintain the streetcar tracks along the Queensway requires the TTC to operate shuttle buses to replace 301 Queen overnight and 501 Queen streetcar service west of Sunnyside loop, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Buses operate between Long Branch Loop and Dundas West Station Saturdays, Sundays and holidays only until late November.

(These buses also replace the buses operating along the 504 King shuttle route operate between Roncesvalles Avenue and Queen Street West / the Queensway and Dundas West Station Mondays to Fridays.)

Eastbound buses start their trips at Long Branch Loop, then proceed:

eastward along Lake Shore Boulevard West;
northward along Park Lawn Road;
eastward along the Queensway;
northward along Roncesvalles Avenue and Dundas Street West; and then
westward into Dundas West Station terminal,
ending their trips.

Saturdays, Sundays and holidays only, eastbound 501 / 504 Queen / King shuttle buses serve regular 301 Queen overnight and 501 Queen stops

  • in Long Branch Loop,
  • on Lake Shore Boulevard West opposite Brown’s Line, at 37th Street, Long Branch Avenue, opposite 30th Street, at 27th, 28th and 23rd Streets, Colonel Smith Drive (Kipling Avenue), 15th, 13th, 10th, 7th, 5th, 3rd and 1st Streets, Royal York Road, Lake Crescent, Miles Road, Norris Crescent and Summerhill Road, opposite Mimico Avenue, at Superior Avenue, opposite Burlington Street, Louisa Street and Legion Road.

They serve regular 313 Jane overnight and 504 King stops

Instead, the buses serve temporary stops beside the curb along the Queensway between Park Lawn Road and Roncesvalles Avenue.

Westbound buses start their trips in Dundas West Station, then proceed:

southward along Roncesvalles Avenue and Dundas Street West;
westward along the Queensway;
southward along Park Lawn Road;
westward along Lake Shore Boulevard West; and then
northward into Long Branch Loop,
ending their trips.

Saturdays, Sundays and holidays only, westbound 501 / 504 Queen / King shuttle buses serve the regular 504 King stops

  • in Dundas West Station and
  • on Dundas Street West at Bloor Street West.

They skip regular 504 King stops

  • on Roncesvalles Avenue south of Boustead Avenue, at Howard Park Avenue, Constance Street, Geoffrey Street, High Park Boulevard, Fern and Galley Avenues and the Queensway.
