Guelph Transit detours buses during Wyndham construction,
starting April 6

Yesterday, Tuesday, April 6, City of Guelph contractors resumed the project to rebuild Wyndham Street South between Carden and Farquhar Streets.

Guelph Transit is detouring buses operating along the 4 York Road and 10 College / Niska routes during the project. The work and the detours likely continue until the end of 2010.

10 College / Niska

From Tuesday, April 6 until Friday, December 31, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Wellington Street West and Gordon Street, then detour:

northward along Gordon and Wilson Streets; and then
eastward along Macdonell Street to Wyndham Street South,
resuming their regular route northward along Wyndham.
(The inbound detour avoids future construction along Norfolk Street.)

Inbound buses skip their regular stops on Norfolk Street at Macdonell Street and on Quebec Street at St. George’s Square (Wyndham Street North). Instead, buses drop off passengers on Wyndham Street North in front of the Scotiabank at Douglas Street.

Outbound buses start their trips on Wyndham Street North at Douglas Street, just north of St. George’s Square, then proceed:

northward along Wyndham Street;
southeastward along Woolwich Street; and then
westward along Wellington Street East to Gordon Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Gordon.

Outbound buses skip their regular stops on Wyndham Street North at Carden Street and on Wyndham Street South and Farquhar Street and Wellington Street East.

4 York Road

From Tuesday, April 6 until Friday, December 31, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Neeve Street and Wellington Street East, then detour:

east- and northward along Wellington East; and then
westward along Macdonell Street to Wyndham Street North,
resuming their regular route northward along Wyndham.

Inbound buses skip their regular stops on Neeve Street at Surrey Street East and on Surrey East and Wyndham Street South.

Outbound buses reverse the detour routing.

Outbound buses skip their regular stop on Wyndham Street South at Farquhar Street.

The City installed new storm sewers, gutters, sidewalks, traffic signals, decorative street lighting, asphalt and bicycle lanes during its project to rebuild the street between Carden and Farquhar Streets. The project started on Monday, September 28.

Construction ended — for 2009 — on Tuesday, December 22 and buses operating along the 10 College / Niska and 4 York Road routes resumed regular service.

This year, the City will continue with the work. It will also replace the 105-year-old railway bridge carrying the tracks of the Canadian National Railways and the Goderich - Exeter Railway across Wyndham Street South. (GO Transit trains between downtown Kitchener and downtown Toronto may also operate across this bridge, possibly in 2011.)

The City of Guelph approved rebuilding Wyndham Street South as part of its 2010 capital works program.

Inbound buses operate toward downtown.

Outbound buses operate away from downtown.
