Update — March 11: GO passengers react to the upcoming end of service. From the Transit Toronto Newspaper Article Clippings Archive, you can read a Toronto Star article about what the passengers think here.
Friday, April 2 is the last day that GO Transit is operating buses along its 62 Newmarket - York Mills “B” route between Newmarket and York Mills GO Bus Terminals.
The buses currently serve just a few stops along Yonge Street Mondays to Fridays only during rush hours. However, GO has operated buses along this corridor since it first started providing bus service on Tuesday, September 3, 1970. It originally offered Yonge Street passengers service along three routes, “A”, “B” and “C”. York Region Transit took over responsibility for operating the rest of this service on Saturday, August 30, 2003.
Today, YRT operates buses seven days a week along the Viva blue route between Newmarket and Finch GO Bus Terminals. Viva buses offer passengers limited service to and from most of the same stops that the GO buses serve. YRT also operates local service along the 98 Yonge North route between Newmarket and Bernard Terminals and the 99 Yonge South route between Bernard and Finch Terminals.
GO plans on reducing service along Yonge Street even more. Friday, April 23 is the last day that GO buses operate along the 64 Newmarket - York University route.
GO buses operating along the 65 Newmarket - Union express route continue to serve local stops along Yonge Street between Eagle Street West in Newmarket and Wellington Street in Aurora. And, GO buses operating along the 68 Barrie - Newmarket route continue to serve stops along Yonge Street north of Davis Drive.
For passengers looking for other ways to get around by transit after the GO bus stops operating, YRT describes its service along Yonge Street here.
