Representatives of the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario and the Town of Oakville recently officially broke ground for a new Oakville Transit maintenance, storage and administration facility.
The new garage at 430 Wyecroft Road will soon be home to all Oakville Transit services, including administration, operations and maintenance. It will house 175 buses and has room to accommodate even more buses at full capacity.
The governments of Canada and Ontario have each committed as much as $15 million for building the facility. The Town of Oakville is contributing the balance of the total cost — as much as $45 million.
The new building is about 300 meters (900 feet) east of Oakville’s current transit facility at 480 Wyecroft Road. The older building only has room for 85 buses.
