Less service to universities during Reading Week,
February 14 to 20



Most universities in the Greater Toronto / Hamilton / Golden Horseshoe area — except for Brock University in St. Catharines — are canceling classes next week, February 14 to 20, to pause for the mid-winter break (some call it “reading” or “study” week).

That means that some transit systems are revising services to and from universities next week.


Mid-winter break affects services along these routes:

Grand River Transit116 Forest Glen - Conestoga College express.

Guelph Transit50 Stone Road express, 55 University / College, 57 Harvard express, 58 Edinburgh express, West Hanlon / Kortright late-night loop, Clairfields / Edinburgh late-night loop, North London / Elizabeth late-night loop.

Hamilton Street Railway51 University.

Peterborough TransitTrent East Bank express, Trent Late-Night Pub Bus, Trent West Bank express.


Grand River Transit


116 Forest Glen - Conestoga College express

From Tuesday, February 16 until Friday, February 19, buses do not operate along the route in the afternoon. Morning services continue. Regular service resumes on Monday, February 22.


Guelph Transit


When Guelph City Council approved the City’s 2010 budget in December, it agreed to reduce the cost of transit by not offering bus service on statutory holidays. Accordingly, no Guelph Transit buses are operating on Family Day, Monday, February 15.

Clairfields / Elizabeth late-night loop

Buses do not operate along the route early Friday, February 12, Saturday, February 13, Sunday, February 14, Wednesday, February 17, Thursday, February 18, Friday, February 19, Saturday, February 20 or Sunday, February 21 mornings. Regular service resumes early Wednesday, February 24 morning.

58 Edinburgh express
57 Harvard express

Buses do not operate along the routes from Monday, February 15 until Friday, February 19. Regular service resumes on Monday, February 22.

North London - Elizabeth late-night loop

Buses do not operate along the route early Friday, February 12, Saturday, February 13, Sunday, February 14, Wednesday, February 17, Thursday, February 18, Friday, February 19, Saturday, February 20 or Sunday, February 21 mornings. Regular service resumes early Wednesday, February 24 morning.

50 Stone Road express
55 University / College

Buses do not operate along the routes from Monday, February 15 until Friday, February 19. Regular service resumes on Monday, February 22.

West Hanlon / Edinburgh late-night loop

Buses do not operate along the route early Friday, February 12, Saturday, February 13, Sunday, February 14, Wednesday, February 17, Thursday, February 18, Friday, February 19, Saturday, February 20 or Sunday, February 21 mornings. Regular service resumes early Wednesday, February 24 morning.


Hamilton Street Railway


51 University

For the first time, the HSR is operating regular Monday-to-Saturday service along the route during reading week at McMaster University.


Peterborough Transit


Trent East Bank express

No service on Family Day, Monday, February 15, although all buses operating along the Trent West Bank express route start their trips at Peter Gzowski College on the east bank of the Otonabee River, serve the Bata Library, then continue along the regular route beside the west bank of the river.

From Tuesday, February 16 until Friday, February 19, buses operate less frequently than usual.

Southbound buses leave Peter Gzowski College every 40 minutes from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Northbound buses leave the Downtown Peterborough Terminal every 40 minutes from 7:40 a.m.

Late-night “pub bus” does not operate during Reading Week, although two extra southbound buses leave Peter Gzowski College on the east bank of the Otonabee River at 10:55 p.m. and 12:10 p.m., serve the Bata Library, then continue along the regular route beside the west bank of the river late Tuesday to Friday evening.

As usual for weekends, Peterborough Transit provides no service along the route on Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21. However, all buses operating along the Trent West Bank express route start their trips at Peter Gzowski College on the east bank of the Otonabee River, serve the Bata Library, then continue along the regular route beside the west bank of the river.

Regular service resumes on Monday, February 22.

Trent Late-Night Pub Bus

No service early Thursday, February 18, Friday, February 19, Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21 mornings. Regular late-night service resumes early Thursday, February 25 morning.

Trent West Bank express

On Family Day, Monday, February 15, buses operate with a special hourly schedule.

Southbound buses leave Peter Gzowski College every hour from 9:55 a.m. until 9:55 p.m. The buses then serve the Bata Library every hour from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and continue along the regular Trent West Bank route downtown. Two later buses leave the Gzowski at 10:55 and 11:55 p.m. and the library at 11:05 p.m. and 12:05 a.m.

Northbound buses leave the Downtown Peterborough Terminal every hour from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m.

From Tuesday, February 16 until Friday, February 19, buses operate less frequently than usual.

Southbound buses leave the Bata Library at 7:30, 7:50 and 8:10 a.m., then every 40 minutes until 10:10 p.m. Two extra trips start at Peter Gzowski College at 10:55 p.m. and 12:10 a.m., arrive at the library at 11:05 p.m. and 12:20 p.m. and continue to downtown Peterborough.

Northbound buses leave the Downtown Peterborough Terminal at 7:10, 7:30 and 7:50 a.m., then every 40 minutes until 10:30 p.m. One extra trip leaves downtown at 11:45 p.m.
