More parking at Unionville GO Station

Earlier this week, GO Transit expanded parking facilities at Unionville GO Station by opening 300 new parking spaces.

Before GO expanded parking at Unionville, the station had about about 1,200 parking spaces and parking was operating beyond capacity. The new spaces that GO added during the past several months will increase the parking by more than 50 per cent, which means the station now has an estimated 1,800 parking spaces.

The construction project occurred in two phases. The first phase of construction started in November, 2008 and resulted in 300 more spaces in the east lot that GO opened in March 2009. The second phase of construction ended on Tuesday, November 17 when GO opened 300 more parking spots in the main lot.

Building these 600 new parking spaces in two stages reduced the impact on passengers and allowed GO to keep previous parking areas available throughout the construction period.

During the construction project, GO also built a new road to connect YMCA Boulevard and the station parking lot. The station also now has new lighting in the parking lot and GO has also improved the “kiss and ride” pick-up area.
