Dufferin / Queen construction affects transit service
this weekend

The City of Toronto is closing the intersection of Dufferin Street and Queen Street West this weekend so that City and Canadian National Railways contractors can shift the railway overpass that crosses the intersection west of its current location.

Moving the bridge is a major component of the ongoing City project to re-align the intersection and eliminate the jog on Dufferin Street where it meets Queen Street West. Currently traffic on Dufferin Street must detour along Peel and Gladstone Avenues to avoid the railway bridge at Queen West.

The TTC is detouring transit service during the project. On Saturday, Sunday and early Monday, buses operating along the 29 Dufferin and 329 Dufferin overnight routes and streetcars operating along the 301 Queen overnight and 501 Queen routes are detouring around the construction zone. The TTC is also operating 501 / 301 Queen shuttle buses to replace the streetcar service along Queen West.

29 Dufferin
329 Dufferin overnight

From 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 20, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Gladstone Avenue and Queen Street West, then detour:

eastward along Queen West;
southward along Shaw Street;
westward along King Street West to Dufferin Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Dufferin.

Northbound buses reverse this routing.

501 Queen
301 Queen overnight

From 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 20, eastbound streetcars operate along their regular route to the Queensway / Queen Street West and King Street West, then detour:

eastward along King Street West; and then
northward along Shaw Street to Queen West,
resuming their regular route eastward along Queen.

Westward streetcars reverse this routing.

The TTC is operating shuttle buses to replace the streetcar service along Queen Street West between Dufferin Street and Roncesvalles Avenue / King Street West.

501 / 301 Queen Shuttle Bus

From 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 20, eastbound buses start their trips at Sunnyside Loop, then proceed:

southward along Sunnyside Avenue;
eastward along the Queensway and Queen Street West;
southward along Dufferin Street;
westward along Springhurst Avenue;
southward along Fort Rouille Street; and then
eastward into Dufferin Gate [or Exhibition West] Loop,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses start their trips in Dufferin Gate Loop, then proceed:

northward along Dufferin Street; and then
westward along Queen Street West and the Queensway to Sunnyside Loop,
ending their trips.

(Note: The TTC’s website only describes the shuttle bus route as “between Sunnyside and Dufferin Loops”. It does not describe the exact route. Buses may still have to detour around the Dufferin / Queen intersection from time to time throughout the weekend as the project progresses.)
