It has been a tough day to be a subway commuter today. Earlier this afternoon, a portion of the Bloor-Danforth subway was shut down around Greenwood station due to a police investigation. Just as that was being cleared up, the section of the Yonge subway between Bloor and Lawrence was taken offline. Shuttle buses are in service, but they haven’t a hope of dealing with the crowds of displaced passengers. There are reports that signal damage at Eglinton is the cause of this problem, and if so, service may be offline for a while.
Passengers’ best bet is to go “round the bend” via Union and head north on the Spadina subway, transferring to east-west buses for the rest of their trip, but they should expect significant delays throughout the system as a result of this disruption.
(Update: 9:04 p.m.): The closure of the Yonge subway between Bloor and Lawrence will remain in effect for the rest of the service day. Through trains will NOT operate until the start of service tomorrow.
(Update: 9:26 p.m.): 680 News is reporting the problem is cables which came down onto the tracks.
(Update: 10:56 p.m.): Service has resumed between Davisville and Bloor stations, with shuttle buses covering the gap between Davisville and Lawrence.
