From September until November this year, the City of Toronto and TTC will build the streetcar tracks along Church Street between Carlton Street and King Street East. The TTC will detour transit service during the work.
An early first phase of this project starts on Monday, July 7. TTC workers will work along Front Street East between Church and Yonge Streets to weld shorter sections of rail into longer strings. They will then store the rails along the track allowance on Church Street between Wellington and King Streets East. The welded sections of tracks will remain on this section of Church until City and TTC workers have finished the project in November.
Storing the tracks on Church requires the TTC to divert streetcars operating on the 503 Kingston Road tripper route. The cars will operate along their regular route during the morning rush hour on July 7, but will detour during the afternoon rush hour and continue to detour for an indefinite period.
Westbound cars will operate along their regular route to King Street East and Church Street, then detour:
westward along King Streets East and West to York Street.
Eastbound cars will start their trips and King Street West and York Street, then proceed:
northward along York; and then eastward along Queen Streets West and East to King Street East, resuming their regular route eastward along Queen.
