Fire Forces Queen Diversions

A five-alarm fire near Queen and Lansdowne is only now being brought under control. Queen Street West has been shut down between Lansdowne and Roncesvalles, and has likely forced the 501 Queen streetcar to divert via King and Dufferin or Shaw. At one point, the fire forced streetcars to divert as far afield as the downtown core, when fire officials were forced to cut power to the King, Queen, Bathurst and Spadina routes. The Toronto Star has more details.

Fire officials hope to have Queen reopened by around noon, although the TTC has not confirmed when full service will return to Queen Street.

New Call for Support for Scarborough Subway Extension

The Toronto Star reports on a campaign to encourage the TTC to favour a Bloor-Danforth subway extension when the Scarborough RT comes due for replacement. Councillors Brian Ashton and David Soknacki will be asking passengers to sign petitions for the extension as they board the Scarborough RT at Scarborough Centre station. Both councillors will be on hand for a second petition signing tomorrow at Kennedy station.
