Weston Meeting on Blue 22 Cancelled Due to Crowds

Crowds gathered early outside the Bethel Apostolic Church in Weston to hear SNC Lavalin and Francis Nunziata discuss the proposed Blue 22 link between Union Station and Pearson Airport. By 6:00 pm, half an hour before the meeting was to start, the Fire Marshall was called in. Although the crowds were orderly, they far exceeded the hall’s capacity of 300 and, as a result, the decision was taken to cancel the meeting and reschedule at a later date in a larger venue.

It is a testament to how much the villagers of Weston are concerned about what Blue 22 could do to their community. Attendee estimates put the crowd as high as 600 or more.

No word yet on where or when the rescheduled meeting would occur.

Update, Mar 10, 2005: this article from the Toronto Star indicates that the number of people in attendance was as high as 1000.
