Transit union will hold three public meetings with TTC riders

By Matthew Coutts

Amalgamated Transit Union head Bob Kinnear took a more tempered tone with the media yesterday while unveiling plans for three public meetings in response to months of heightened tension between transit operators and riders.

Mr. Kinnear had been almost accusatory when he last spoke to media, amid the heightened tension between union workers and commuters in early February, taking a shot at the media’s coverage of drivers who took extended coffee and washroom breaks during their shifts. Yesterday, Mr. Kinnear described the town hall meetings as an end to the “negative and unproductive ‘us-versus-them’ climate.”

The first of the meetings will be held on April 11 at Downsview Secondary School. Further meetings are scheduled for April 18 and May 2.
