TTC gets with the times, we think

The TTC is saying nothing until Monday about a new live tracking system for streetcars spotted at Spadina Station that has the blogosphere abuzz.

Riders reported seeing multiple large flat screens displaying a route map with the locations and estimated arrival times for 510 Spadina streetcars, as shown in photos posted on blogTO.

A TTC spokesperson would not confirm this afternoon whether the transit service was in fact implementing rider tracking for its vehicles, which are being equipped with GPS, or how extensive the program might be, stating all would be clarified Monday. “We’re not really commenting until the news conference,” said Danny Nicholson. “That will be announced on Monday.”

Keeping tabs on a bus or streetcar en route would allow passengers to know if service has run into the inevitable chaos of Toronto traffic, and plan - or at least brace for - delays.
