Media Advisory - Raw Transit Footage Reveals a Feast of Virtues -a Famine of Will

TORONTO, Feb. 17 /CNW/ - A hard hitting, 15-minute documentary video, portraying the current condition of TTC service and the important role it plays in the city, provincial and national economy, will be launched this morning at the Toronto Board of Trade. Toronto Mayor David Miller will present the video. Copies of the video will be sent to all City Councillors, MPPs and MPs.

“This is a fast-paced video that cuts to the core of what’s important to the city,” said Mayor Miller. “It shows the TTC during the August blackout - silent, unmoving - the people walking, the traffic jammed. Everything came to an economic halt. The point is made. Sustained government support is essential to keep this vital city vital.”

The video shows the TTC in its daily operation - 1.4 million riders a day, more than 400 million a year and another 1 billion riders every 30 months.

“The tough hard facts are all there - back to back to back,” said TTC Vice Chair Joe Mihevc. “Philadelphians get 70 per cent their capital funding from the federal and state governments, Chicago gets more than 90 per cent of its capital funding from the federal and state governments. You’ve read the book … now see the movie. Listen to Bill Millar, President of the American Public Transit Association. If his words don’t shake you in your boots, I don’t know what will.”
