November 2000 Notes

…The TTC is considering a $125000 engineering study to assess the feasibility of adding a new station on the Scarborough RT at Brimley Road. The station was not built when the line opened because the area it would have served was low-density industrial, but provision was made for a station to be built in the future. The area is now under significant redevelopment… …A TTC report recommends the construction of new storage tracks at Wilson Yard to address a storage shortfall. Wilson and Greenwood have storage capacity for 610 cars. 664 cars now operate in service each day, and this shortfall will continue as the fleet increases…

…Early reports on the 509 Harbourfront streetcar indicate that ridership on the line is exceeding projections. During the CNE, more riders rode on the 509 streetcar than took the 521 streetcar and the 121 Front-Esplanade bus combined. Because of this, early evening Monday to Saturday and Sunday service has been reinstated for the winter… …The TTC’s lease of Fleet Loop has been renewed. The TTC leases the property from the CNE Board of Governers for the tidy sum of $1 per year…

…Evening and weekend service on the 192 Airport Rocket will start earlier than planned; on November 20 instead of January 7. Buses will run at 45 minute intervals from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Sundays. This change is resulting from competitor Pacific Western’s decision to cancel its service between Pearson Airport and Islington station. The GTAA is providing the TTC with additional funding to expand this service on short notice…

…Early in 2001, GO’s newest train station opens. Rutherford Station will be the last southbound stop before Union Station on the Bradford GO line. The station will be located just south of Rutherford Road and will include parking…
