1999 Streetcar Trackwork Schedule Completed

Once preparations for specialwork in the Bathurst/Fleet/Lakeshore Intersection is completed in anticipation of next year’s Harbourfront streetcar extension, the TTC’s planned 1999 trackwork season will come to a close. This year brought several thousand feet of double track back to tip-top condition and also added some interesting features to a couple of lines. Queen Cars, for instance, can now bypass left turning Kingston Road streetcars at the Queen/Kingston Road intersection thanks to the revised specialwork. Although the TTC still possesses two temporary crossovers, purchased in 1998 to limit ‘bustitution’ during construction projects, they were not hauled out this year. This year’s trackwork projects covered thousands of feet of trackwork at once, and temporary single-track operation was not feasible.
