3 stations close for Sheppard construction

    TORONTO, Oct. 29 /CNW/ - The Yonge Subway north of York Mills 
Station will be closed Sunday, October 31, the last of 9 one-day 
station closures to accommodate Sheppard Subway construction. Work on 
the station was to have taken 11 days but has been accomplished in 9 
days. The two final Sunday closures planned for November 7 and 14 have
been cancelled.
    The TTC thanks its customers for their patience throughout these
closures. The new Sheppard Subway line will be open for service in mid
    Following Sunday’s closure on October 31, regular subway service 
will resume at 6 a.m. Monday. During the temporary closures 
construction crews are removing sections of the roof and wall from the
existing Sheppard station.
    Finch, North York Centre and Sheppard Subway stations will close 
Sunday, October 31 with bus service added to minimize the disruption 
of service for our customers.
    To assist riders in making subway connections Sunday, the TTC is
extending east-west bus routes (Steeles, Finch and Sheppard) to the 
temporary subway terminal at York Mills as follows:

-  east-west bus service which normally terminates at Finch or 
   Sheppard Subway stations will continue on to York Mills Station
-  the extended routes will stop at Finch, North York Centre and 
   Sheppard Subway stations (adding only eight minutes to travel 
-  extra buses added to regular service on Yonge Street will serve
   all local stops.

The final temporary closures of Finch, North York Centre and

Sheppard Subway stations is scheduled for Sunday, October 31.
