Mississauga Transit strike averted

Attention News Editors:

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 22 /CNW/ - Negotiations between the City of Mississauga and the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1572 have averted a city-wide transit strike. Early this morning an agreement was reached on the terms for a new collective agreement. The Union will present the terms of the Memorandum of Settlement to its members on Thursday, September 23, and they will vote on the matter on Monday, September 27.

Union negotiators will be recommending acceptance of the terms. A report recommending ratification of the settlement will be presented to Mississauga City Council on Wednesday, September 29, 1999.

“I am delighted that a settlement has been reached which I believe is a good deal for our Transit employees and that this averts any labour disruption which would have seriously impacted service to our customers,” said Transit Director Bill Cunningham.
