Miss Canada contestants get lesson in subway security

Attention News Editors:

TORONTO, Aug. 9 /CNW/ - Today, at 10:30 a.m. 50 Miss Canada

contestants will get a quick lesson in TTC subway security when a Transit Security Officer demonstrates the Designated Waiting Area (DWA) on the southbound platform at Bloor-Yonge Station. The contestants will be invited to try the intercom to the Collectors Booth. Today’s trip through downtown Toronto will be the first subway trip for many contestants who represent communities across Canada.

Designated Waiting Areas (DWA)
- Designated Waiting Areas are located on all subway platforms. A
DWA has brighter lights as well as both an intercom and closed
circuit TV camera to the Station Collector; public telephone and
a bench for our riders' safety and convenience. On the subway,
the DWA is located where the train guard's car stops so you can
travel in a car with a TTC employee in it; on the Scarborough
RT, the DWA is located where the driver's car stops. Each DWA is
  identified with a ceiling sign.
