TTC improves seasonal service on bus and streetcar routes


    TORONTO, April 29 /CNW/ - The following service changes to bus 
routes begin next week to attract new customers and better serve 
people's travel needs during the summer season. Here's a brief summary
of the changes:

    6 BAY - Seasonal hours of service change
    -  Service will be extended until approximately 10:30 p.m. on 
       Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the summer. Monday to 
       Friday service continues until 10:30 p.m.

    29 DUFFERIN - Seasonal route extension
    -  The route will be extended into the Exhibition grounds through 
       the summer, to provide service closer to Ontario Place. This 
       service will operate from approximately 9:00 a.m., seven days a
       week. When major events (including the Indy auto race and the 
       CNE) are being held on the Exhibition Grounds, buses will turn 
       back at Dufferin Loop.

    121 FRONT-ESPLANADE - Seasonal route extension
    -  The route will be extended to Ontario Place and Exhibition 
       Place through the summer to provide a direct service from Union
       Station to these waterfront attractions. This service will 
       operate from approximately 9:30 a.m. until approximately 7:00 
       p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. After June 13, 
       service to Ontario Place and Exhibition Place will run seven 
       days a week until midnight. When major events (including the 
       Indy auto race and the CNE) are being held on the Exhibition 
       Grounds, the route will be diverted to serve Ontario Place 
       only.

    107 KEELE NORTH - Seasonal route change
    -  Service will be removed from York University for the summer.

    504 KING - Track replacement
    -  Sections of streetcar track will be replaced on Roncesvalles 
       Avenue and King Street, so streetcar service will be replaced 
       by buses west of Bathurst on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. 
       Streetcars will run from Broadview Station to Bathurst, turning
       at Fleet Loop. Buses will run from Dundas West Station to 
       downtown, turning north on Church, west on Richmond, south on 
       Victoria, east on Adelaide, south on Church, and west on King. 
       Regular streetcar service will resume June 14.

    80 QUEENSWAY - New service to western beaches
    -  The route will be changed to improve customers' access to the 
       beaches south of Lake Shore Boulevard. Buses will run via 
       Parkside, Lake Shore, Ellis, and the Queensway and will serve 
       new, conveniently-located bus stops on Lake Shore near the 
       western beaches and Sunnyside Pool.

    -  New Sunday and holiday summer service will be added, between 
       Keele Station and western beaches only. Buses will run from 
       Keele Station, south on Parkside, west on Lake Shore, north on 
       Ellis, west on the Queensway, and will turn around at the South
       Kingsway interchange.

    73 ROYAL YORK - New service to La Rose Avenue
    -  A new rush-hour-only branch will be added to this route, to 

       provide new service to the residential area on La Rose Avenue. 
       Buses will run from Royal York Station, north on Royal York, 
       east on La Rose, south on Scarlett Road, west on Eglinton, and 
       south on Royal York.

    SHEPPARD SUBWAY construction - Added running time
    -  Running time will be increased in the afternoon peak period on 
       139 Huntingwood, 85 Sheppard East, and 10 Van Horne, to allow 
       for the traffic delays that are occurring while decking is 
       being installed for the construction of the stations on the 
       Sheppard subway line.

    TORONTO ZOO - Seasonal hours of service change
    -  Service to the zoo on the 86 Scarborough route (from Monday to 
       Friday) and the 85 Sheppard East route (on Saturdays, Sundays, 
       and holidays) will be extended until approximately 8:30 p.m., 
       to match the zoo's closing time of 7:30 p.m. Weekend service to
       the zoo on 86 Scarborough will begin June 13.

    58A MALTON and 307 EGLINTON WEST Blue Night - Revised routing at 
       Pearson Airport
    -  The route taken by TTC buses at Pearson Airport has changed, as
       a result of the airport's ongoing construction work. Buses on 
       the 58A Malton route and the overnight 307 Eglinton West Blue 
       Night route now serve Terminal 2 only. From the TTC bus stop at
       the arrivals level, customers can catch a free shuttle bus to 
       the other airport terminals. Together, these two TTC routes 
       provide 24-hour service to the airport, at regular fares.

    SEASONAL SERVICE INCREASES
    -  Service will be increased on the following routes, to match the
       higherridership at this time of year:
       64 Main - Sunday and holiday afternoon
       510 Spadina - Sunday and holiday morning, afternoon, and early 
           evening
