TTC improves service, frequency on bus routes

TORONTO, Feb. 19 /CNW/ - The following service changes began this

week to bus routes to make transit trips quicker and more convenient for TTC customers: - 49 BLOOR WEST - route extension: The west-end loop is expanded after 11 p.m., seven days a week. Buses on the new 49A BLOOR WEST (Kipling Station-Markland and Burnhamthorpe) branch run west on Bloor, north on Markland, south on West Mall and east on Bloor. - 307 EGLINTON WEST - extension to Pearson Airport: This overnight route (from about 2 a.m. - 5 a.m.) extends north on Renforth and Silver Dart to the airport. It serves the same stops at the airport as the 58 MALTON route does during the rest of the day. - 307 FINCH WEST - extension to Humberwood Loop: This overnight route (from about 2 a.m. - 5 a.m.) extends west to Humberwood Loop and runs west of John Garland Boulevard on Humber College Boulevard, instead of Finch Avenue. - 83 JONES - new Saturday service runs between approximately 6 a.m. - 10p.m. - 97 YONGE/197 NORTH YONGE - the 97 YONGE route divides into two separate routes, seven days a week, to improve service reliability south of York Mills Road during construction of the Sheppard Subway (expected to be complete in 2002). During the morning and afternoon peak periods, buses run on two branches: 97A YONGE (York Mills Station-Davisville Station via Yonge Boulevard) and 97B YONGE (York Mills Station-Queens Quay via Yonge Boulevard). During the midday, Mon.-Fri., buses will run on the 97D YONGE (York Mills Station-St. Clair Station via Yonge Boulevard) branch. During the evenings, and on weekends, buses will run on the 97A YONGE (York Mills Station-Davisville Station via Yonge Boulevard) branch. Buses on the northern part of the route run between Lawrence Station and Steeles Avenue (serving Moore Park and Hilda), and are identified as 197 NORTH YONGE (Lawrence Station-Steeles). - 131 NUGGET - new Sunday and holiday service runs between approximately 8:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. - 76 ROYAL YORK SOUTH - new service on Grand Avenue is provided by the 76B ROYAL YORK SOUTH during the morning and afternoon peak periods, from Mon.-Fri. - 163 RUSTIC ROAD - new route from Wilson Station to an on-street loop at Jane Street during the morning and afternoon peak periods, from Mon.-Fri. - 53 STEELES EAST - new service on Elson Street, east of McCowan Road: extended are the east-end loop of the 53B STEELES EAST and the 53E STEELES EAST EXPRESS. These branches run during the morning and afternoon peak periods and the midday, from Mon.-Fri. - 165 WESTON ROAD NORTH - new Sunday and holiday late-evening service runs during the late evening on Sundays and holidays on Weston Road, between Wilson and Finch. - 319 WILSON - extension to Steeles Avenue: This overnight route (from about 2 a.m. - 5 a.m.) extends north on Martin Grove Road to Steeles Avenue. Overnight service on Humber College Boulevard and Humberline Drive is replaced by the revised 309 FINCH WEST route.
