TTC breaks ground for streetcar link to the EX


    TORONTO, Nov. 23 /CNW/ - Ground will be broken tomorrow for a new
section of streetcar track giving TTC customers a direct streetcar 
link from Union Station to Exhibition Loop.
    The 800-meter-long section of track will connect Harbourfront 
line, from the point where it turns north on Spadina Avenue at 
Queen's Quay, to the Bathurst streetcar route, where it joins 
Lakeshore Blvd. and travels west along Fleet Street into Exhibition 
Place. The $12.95 million connection will open in the late summer of 
the year 2000.
    Councillor Joe Pantalone, Chair of the Exhibition Place Board of
Governors; TTC Chair Howard Moscoe; Vice-Chair Rob Davis; 
Commissioners David Miller and Blake Kinahan and Councillor Mario 
Silva, Trinity-Niagara, will turn the first shovels of earth at 11 
a.m., Tuesday, November 24. The event will begin in Harbourfront 
Community Centre, 627 Queen's Quay. 
    Children from the Harbourfront Day Care will join the 
Councillors, their guests and members of the community for cake 
following the groundbreaking.
