TTC ridership topping the charts for 1998

TORONTO, Nov. 17 /CNW/ - For the first time since October 1994,

TTC’s ridership has topped the 1.4 million mark. On Friday, October 30, 1998, 1,405,000 people rode the Red Rocket across Toronto. The TTC credits the city’s improving job market and Metropass Discount Plan sales with helping to boost the number of passengers carried. “Clearly, more and more people in the city are relying on the TTC to avoid the hassles of driving and the high cost of parking downtown,” said Chief General Manager David Gunn. “Our passengers enjoy the safe, reliable, clean and economical alternative we provide to congested streets and highways.” One TTC bus replaces 60 cars while one subway line replaces six fully-packed Don Valley Parkways.
