Buses May Cut Bloor, Danforth Traffic Lanes

Operation of an express rush hour bus service on Bloor St. and Danforth Av. is being studied by the TTC for introduction next October, TTC Chairman Lamport said yesterday.

The bus service would require exclusive use of the curb lane on Bloor St. and Danforth Ave. between Christie St. and Pape Ave. It would augment regular street car service.

Mr. Lamport said provision for the exclusive right-of-way would require a ban on curb parking. The TTC, however, would have to submit any request for traffic rights on Bloor St. and the Danforth to Metro Roads Committee.

Street car speed on Bloor St. has dropped to 6 mph and if service does not improve passengers will be lost by the commission, said Mr. Lamport. The Bloor line carries about 12,000 persons hourly, he said.
